Bethany Edwards, a rising second-semester senior from Nashville, Tenn., recently learned that she has been accepted for the India Studies Program, part of the BestSemester Program of the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU). Bethany, who is pursuing a major in psychology and a minor in social work, will fly to India in late August to begin classes there.
For Bethany who has been out of the U. S. only two times (both trips were mission trips), her decision to apply for a semester abroad was not easily made. “I learned about the BestSemester Program during my sophomore year, but I did not really become serious about applying until my junior year. When I started looking at the places where BestSemester was offered, I was really interested in Uganda and India, and I started praying for guidance. Surprising to me, the topic of India kept coming up in my classes and in other places. I finally realized that applying for studying in India really felt right,” Bethany explained.
During her semester in India, she will attend classes with other American students who are in the BestSemester Program. Those classes will be taught by Indian professors.
“I am very thankful for this opportunity to expand my educational horizons, but I know that this experience will take me out of my own place of comfort. I am reassured that God is leading me and that God will work in my life through this trip,” said Bethany.
