Trevecca Giving Day postponed; University to host Trevecca Giving Back Day instead

Community defines Trevecca—and Trevecca officials are calling for employees, current students, alumni and friends of the University to showcase that community spirit on April 16.

Trevecca Giving Back Day will invite the greater Trevecca family to embrace the spirit of the University’s motto: Esse Quam Videri (to be rather than to seem), said Peg Cooning, vice president for external relations.

“This day of encouragement and giving to others is all about connections,” Cooning said. “The pandemic has forced us to distance socially from one another, but it doesn’t prevent us from connecting and encouraging our neighbors and friends through acts of kindness.”

Trevecca Giving Day, the University’s first 24-hour giving day, was previously scheduled for April 16. This event has been postponed and will be held at a later date.

“Our hope is that Trevecca Giving Back Day provides an opportunity for the Trevecca community to live out our motto by engaging with students, alumni, and friends through a shared community and spiritual connection,” Cooning said.

Throughout the course of the day on April 16, organizers are asking members of the Trevecca community to check in on each other, to pray for one another and find tangible ways to live out Trevecca’s motto in their own communities.

In addition, Trevecca students, alumni and friends should expect to see encouraging, inspirational and fun messages posted on social media throughout the day. Contributors are expected to include Dr. Dan Boone, president of Trevecca, as well as University chaplain Erik Gernand and other Trevecca personnel, alumni and students.

But Cooning doesn’t want to stop there. She says Trevecca Giving Back Day is also a chance for alumni, students and friends to share their own Trevecca stories while helping meet the needs of current students.

“We invite our greater Trevecca family to get involved,” Cooning said. “Share your Esse Quam Videri stories with us on social media. Pray for the University and each other.”

Community members who can are encouraged to support the Student Emergency Fund, Cooning added. This fund will be used to help students and their families affected by the recent tornadoes in Tennessee as well as the COVID-19 outbreak.

“Use April 16 as a way to express your own version of Trevecca’s mission of service and leadership,” Cooning said.

More information regarding Giving Back Day will be coming soon.
