Trevecca students win five awards at state contest

Journalism students from Trevecca took home five awards Saturday at the Tennessee Associated Press College Contest.

Trevecca students were recognized among more than 200 nominees from all over the state—from both public and private schools. 

  • Second Place Best Newspaper Feature: Olivia Kelley
  • Second Place Best Online Spot Coverage: Maci Shingleton
  • Third Place Best Online Multimedia Package: Nadia Smith and Tyler Whetstone
  • Honorable Mention Best Newspaper Story: Maci Shingleton
  • Honorable Mention Best Newspaper Reporter: Nadia Smith

Senior communications studies major Shingleton said the day was great and she felt honored to be recognized with two awards. 

Winners were announced at the awards banquet at the Tennessee AP College Career Day and College Awards Luncheon. 

“The day overall was an incredible opportunity to network and meet journalism professionals. I learned so many things I plan on applying to my career search,” Shingleton said. 

Recent graduate and government reporter at The Jackson Sun Whetstone won first place in the professional newspaper division II category for a business story.
