He grew up in Amherst, MA, where he attended University of Massachusetts for his B.A. in Philosophy. He also graduated from Princeton Theological Seminary with his Masters in Divinity, served as a chaplain intern at Trenton Psychiatric Hospital in New Jersey, and was ordained as a Presbyterian (USA) minister in Nashville.
