Cory earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Kansas where he developed computer networking solutions for communications following natural and man-made disasters such as earthquakes, hurricanes, and terrorist attacks. He continued this work for many years as a professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. His work extended into areas of wireless cellular communications, overcoming wireless channel impairments, and the use of artificial intelligence in communication performance optimization. Highlights from his work there included a National Science Foundation CAREER award along with several industry collaborations with telecommunications companies and the Federal Aviation Administration. He and his students have produced 90 papers with over 1700 citations.
Dr. Beard has also been active in teaching and accreditation activities. He co-authored a textbook entitled Wireless Communication Networks and Systems, was a recipient of several teaching and mentoring awards, and led several ABET accreditation efforts. He came to Trevecca in 2024.
