Lena is the dean of the School of Arts and Social Sciences, associate provost of traditional undergraduate programs and a professor of communication studies. She graduated with her B.A. from Trevecca Nazarene University, her M.A. from Auburn University, completed doctoral work at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, and earned her Ed.D. from Trevecca Nazarene University. Lena teaches undergraduate students in speech and interpersonal communication. She particularly enjoys teaching Advanced Public Speaking, Research Methods in Communication Studies, Nonverbal Communication, Gender & Communication, Human Relations in Organizations and Interpersonal Communication.
Lena grew up in Conway, Ark., and remains an enthusiastic Arkansas Razorback fan ("Whooo Pigs Sooooeee"). She enjoys spending time with her husband, Steve, and two pugs, Wesley and Clarabelle. The Welches are active members of Blakemore Church of the Nazarene. Lena’s hobbies include gardening, reading and performing in community theatre.
