Physician Assistant

Each individual state governs the practice of medicine and the issuance of medical licenses within that state. Therefore, the rules, regulations, and specific requirements for procuring a license to practice as a physician assistant will vary from state to state. The state specific rules and regulations governing the issuance of a license to practice as a physician assistant for all states are below (listed by state) and can be found at http://www.nccpa.net/stateboards.

In order to obtain national certification via the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), an individual must pass NCCPA’s Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination (PANCE). To be eligible for NCCPA’s PANCE, an individual must have graduated from a physician assistant program that is accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) at the time of graduation. Additional information regarding PANCE eligibility requirements may be found at https://www.nccpa.net/pance-eligibility.

Trevecca Nazarene University’s Physician Assistant Program is currently accredited by the ARC-PA.

Professional Accountancy

Trevecca currently offers the following accounting degrees: Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) with a Concentration in Accounting (120 credit hours), Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) with a Concentration in Professional Accountancy (150 credit hours).

To obtain initial licensure as a CPA in Tennessee and all other states, a candidate is required to have successfully completed 150 credit hours including a prescribed number of accounting and business credit hours (which varies by state). In addition to the exam, the majority of states require CPA candidates to complete a certain number of years of accounting experience and pass an ethics test before they obtain initial licensure. Trevecca’s Professional Accountancy degree meets the education requirement for Tennessee and the majority of states. Students seeking licensure in a state other than Tennessee are advised to contact the appropriate state board of accountancy (see https://nasba.org/stateboards/). Students are also encouraged to speak with an accounting advisor at Trevecca for assistance at 615.248.1256.

There are a number of states that allow students to sit for the CPA exam who have completed 120 credit hours toward an accounting degree. Students must eventually satisfy each state’s education and experience requirement to be licensed. Tennessee requires students to be within 200 days of completing the 150 credit hours before sitting for the CPA exam. Students seeking to sit for the exam in another state are advised to contact the appropriate state board of accountancy (details available by state at https://nasba.org/stateboards/).
