Position Summary

The Graduate Assistant for Student Life will serve as a member of the Student Life Team within the Center for Student Development. This Graduate Assistant (GA) will be responsible for facilitating and overseeing a robust Campus Recreation program including Intramurals and Outdoor Recreation. The GA will also support the Director of Student Life with the initiatives of student involvement including Student Government Association. The work will include event planning and coordinating, supervising student leaders, advising SGA, managing event software, regular written communications, attending meetings, data collection and management, and broadly supporting the Center for Student Development. This position will report directly to the Director of Student Life.

The successful candidate will

  • Assist in the execution of Student Life Programming, including but not limited to, traditional annual events, New Student Programs events, Student Government Association programming, and Student Development programming.
  • Assist in the advising of the Student Government Association
    • Attend weekly Executive and General SGA meetings
    • Supervise student T.I.A. Director and intramural personnel
  • Assist in student leader training for Student Development, Student Government Association, and Intramural Personnel
  • Facilitate and support Intramural programming, including attendance at select games and tournaments, maintenance of equipment, administration of IM Leagues software, reserving shared spaces, maintenance of equipment, keeping a budget and record of spending, updating and enforcing the Intramural handbook, rules and policies.
  • Plan, implement, and facilitate outdoor recreation experiences both on and off campus
  • Provide administrative support for club sports by assisting in registration for tournaments, developing and updating club manual, and providing training for sponsors
  • Support TREK Mentors in trip planning logistics and preparation, and serve as staff member on TREK trips
  • Assist in evaluation of Campus Recreation initiatives
  • Assist with the development of program policies, procedures, and manuals
  • Management and maintenance of Campus Recreation equipment and facilities
  • Maintain Campus Recreation rental program (backpacking gear)
  • All other duties as assigned by Director of Student Life

Required Qualifications

  • Completed bachelor’s degree from accredited university
  • General knowledge about campus recreation programs
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills
  • CPR/First Aid certifications (or obtained within the first 2 months from start date)
  • Wilderness First Aid (or obtained within the first 6 months from start date)
  • Proficient computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Office, Google applications, social media)
  • Ability and willingness to drive a university owned 15 passenger van/bus

Compensation

  • Tuition Remission: for approved graduate program at Trevecca Nazarene University
  • Stipend: $12,000 per year
  • Accommodations: free housing and parking
  • Hours: 20-25 hours per week, flexible night and weekend hours required
