What to Expect
Trevecca's MSW program is designed to develop exceptional social work professionals who are deeply skilled and deeply compassionate, equipped to advance healing, advocacy and innovation within complex social systems. You will be uniquely equipped with a distinctive faith-based lens on social work, where ethics, servant leadership and a commitment to justice are valued. This program includes two specialized tracks, clinical social work and community impact and organizational practice.
For those with a bachelor of social work, the master’s can be completed in 10 months. With a standard bachelor’s, the master’s can be completed in two years.
The MSW program is designed to meet CSWE accreditation standards and is currently seeking CSWE accreditation. Eligibility for professional social work licensure is contingent upon graduation from a CSWE-accredited program and varies by state. Students should consult their state licensing board for specific requirements.

Plans of Study
The Master of Social Work degree offers four plans of study:
- Full time (two years): 58 credit hours
- Part time (four years): 58 credit hours
- Advanced Standing full time (one year): 33 credit hours
- Advanced Standing part time (two years): 33 credit hours
A fast-track option (4+1) makes it possible for undergraduate BSW students to complete the BSW and MSW in just five years.
Specialized Tracks
The Clinical Social Work Practice specialization prepares students for advanced, direct practice in clinical and mental health settings. Designed for those who want to work closely with individuals, families, and groups, this specialization emphasizes evidence-informed assessment, counseling, case management, and coordinated care within interdisciplinary environments.
Students develop the skills needed to respond to complex mental health and psychosocial challenges while advocating for ethical, culturally responsive, and justice-oriented practice. Graduates pursue careers in healthcare, behavioral health, schools, trauma-informed services, and child and family settings, often working as therapists, counselors, or advanced case managers.
The Community Impact and Organizational Practice (CIOP) specialization prepares students for advanced social work practice focused on organizations, communities, and systems-level change. Designed for students who want to lead, influence, and improve social systems, this specialization emphasizes community engagement, organizational leadership, policy advocacy, and program evaluation.
Students develop the skills needed to address complex social challenges by strengthening organizations, advancing equitable policies, and partnering with communities. Graduates pursue careers in nonprofit leadership, community development, healthcare systems, public agencies, advocacy organizations, and the broader social sector.
