Special Education Interventionist K-8

Special Education Interventionist K-8

Overview

Educators truly make a difference in the lives of their community, answering a call to impart wisdom, instruction and inspiration to a generation of students. The field offers expansive opportunities to excel in an area that fits your interests and strengths. If you enjoy working with students who have learning exceptionalities or language needs, then a career as a special education teacher could be a great fit for you.

Trevecca’s Bachelor of Science in special education offers a dual endorsement in K-8 intervention and English as a second language (ESL). This degree equips teachers to work with students who have learning challenges and language barriers.

In communities across the country, schools face the growing need to assist students who have physical, cognitive or language delays or behavioral and social conditions that may impact their ability to learn and be successful in today's classroom. Additionally, the number of English language learners across the United States continues to climb. According to a 2017 report from the National Center for Educational Statistics, at least 10 percent of public school students in American (5 million students) are English language learners in need of ESL services.

Students in this program will complete coursework with a special education/K-8 interventionist emphasis. They’ll also take 12 hours of ESL courses to gain the expertise needed for instructing students.

Your Trevecca experience will include:

  • Small class sizes
  • A distinctly Christian environment
  • Mentoring relationships with professors
  • Courses taught by faculty with public and private school experience
  • Student teaching opportunities in Nashville
