Overview

Make a difference as a dynamic leader in education

Earn your education specialist degree and improve school and student performance

Committed to educating the next generation with compassionate servant leadership, you’re ready to take the next step in your teaching career. The education specialist degree (Ed.S.) in accountability and instructional leadership is specifically designed for administrators, instructional facilitators and teachers in schools and districts who seek to improve school and student performance.

With this degree, you’ll be eligible to receive licensure in instructional leadership so that you can serve within K-12 schools in an administrative position, such as a principal or assistant principal. In many districts, earning an Ed.S. also means receiving a pay raise. This program is 100 percent transferable with no loss of time into the Doctor of Education program (Ed.D.). If you choose to continue into the doctoral program, you are already knowledgeable about research, have a study design to expound upon and only have 30 more credit hours to complete your doctorate.

In today’s uncertain educational environment, experienced teachers who desire more knowledge and skills are in high demand. With the education specialist degree, you’ll become an expert in research, data and accountability and can take advantage of an accelerated path to an Ed.D. if you choose.

What to expect

  • The program is 100 percent online, with books and materials delivered to your front door. You’ll complete the entire degree remotely. Online students work with a learning cohort throughout the program, taking one class at a time.
  • Receive your degree in 15 months or take advantage of our accelerated opportunity to earn a Doctor of Education in leadership and professional practice. All credits from the educational specialist program are transferable to the Doctor of Education degree. Take an additional 30 credits to complete your doctorate.
  • Examples of topics covered include improving student achievement through various school leadership styles; creating and sustaining effective leadership environments in order to help low-performing schools; identifying ways to build school cultures focused on using data collaboratively; instructional strategies for closing the achievement gap; and processes and procedures necessary to recruit, hire and retain competent and effective professionals.
